Your child can choose the relevant workshop which he/she needs the most help in:
Workshop #1: Sec 3 (2023) Introduction to SS and Upper Sec SBQ Skills
This workshop is specially catered for students who are entering Sec 3 (Express or N/A – both are applicable) in 2023 and are apprehensive about SS because the subject is new to them and they have no comparative frame of reference to help them understand what this subject might be like/about.
The workshop will introduce a portion of the first theme in their syllabus content, namely ‘Citizenship’ and what it entails/the sacrifices one might have to make to be part of a greater entity known as a ‘society’. This should cover all their SS content lessons for the 1st term in 2023.
Building on this content knowledge, the course will refresh the SBQ skills learned in the lower secondary history syllabus, as well as update them with the higher order analysis required for upper secondary SS work.
Day 1:
Content coverage of new SS topic – Citizenship
SS SBQ covered: Inference
Upper Secondary SBQ skill add-on: Deeper inference based on the issue, 2 sided inference
Day 2:
1st SBQ Skill covered: Purpose
Upper Secondary SBQ skill add-on: More emphasis on the CONTEXT of the source
2nd SBQ Skill covered: Comparison
Upper Secondary SBQ skill add-on: Higher level comparison of Purpose, Tone and Overall Opinion
With this head start in the content and SBQ skills needed in Sec 3, students should be able to approach their first term lessons with less worry and more confidence.
Workshop #2: Headstart for Sec 4 SS SBQ Skills
This course is for students who are entering Sec 4 Express (only) in 2023 and are apprehensive about SS and would like a head start in their SS content coverage, as well as the new SBQ skills they will be learning for the coming year.
The course will cover ALL the content lessons of their first term in 2023 – Globalisation. Namely, the course will cover the driving forces of globalisation as well as the impact of globalisation on economies and cultures. Important concepts like Hybridisation and Homogenisation will also be covered and explained in depth.
Building on this content knowledge, the course will also cover and teach the new SBQ skills that they will have to face in 2023 – Surprise and Hybrid SBQ. All practice and worked model answers will come from only past year O level papers as well as 2022 school preliminary exam papers, in order to provide students with the best and most relevant O level standard references.
Day 1:
Content coverage of SS topic – Globalisation
1st half – Driving forces of Globalisation
2nd half – Impact of Globalisation on economies and cultures
Day 2: SS SBQ covered: Surprise

Mr Noel Ong
(Secondary Social Studies, History)
- Bachelor of Arts and Social Science, NUS (Majored in Political Science and English Literature, Minored in History)
- Post Graduate Diploma in Education, NIE
- More than 20 years of teaching experience in MOE schools
Mr Noel Ong is a NIE-trained MOE teacher who has more than 18 years of teaching experience. Having spent all his 18 years teaching in a typical Singapore neighbourhood school, he has much experience in raising the grades of students who were formerly struggling with SS and History. He was teaching SS when the subject was introduced in 2001, and so has a wealth of knowledge concerning how this subject is taught, examined and assessed. Mr Noel is also very well versed in the current SS syllabus (rolled out in 2016) as he was part of the team of MOE teachers selected to evaluate the textbook as it was being written, and also to pilot the lesson plans and materials that were included with the syllabus text. Finally, he strongly believes that both SS and History need not be dry or ‘boring’; What could be more interesting than learning more about your country, your world and the story of mankind?
